MESQUITE FIRE
U10

Mesquite Fire is actually a Girl's Competitive Soccer Team for Mesquite Soccer Academy.  At this time, however, it is a coed team, with the stipulation that there must be at least four girls on the field, during the games.  Once there are enough girls to make a full team of U10 athletes, it will revert back to an all girls teams.

Saturday April 19, 2008

The Mesquite Fire U-10 was the only team in action over the weekend as the U-17 girls had a bye and the U-15 girls were forced to reschedule due to the middle school Virginia trip. Several girls were missing and would have forced them to play short handed. The scheduled double header will be played at a later date. Time not certain yet.

The Mesquite Fire traveled way north to Cedar City, Utah to play the Cedar Rush. When they arrived they found that they were also battling Mother Nature. The wind was outrageous. The young team had a difficult time in the first half adjusting to the wind blown balls and the rush managed 3 goals (one great goal and two with the wind for the assist). Keeper Jeremy Hunt did a great job in the net battling both the Rush and the wind. The Rush led at half time 3-0.

The second half was completely dominated by the Mesquite Fire. The wind died down a bit in the first ten minutes of the second half and the fire was attacking very well and the defense awesome. The Fire scored with about seven minutes left in the contest off of the foot of forward Christopher Poulsen, Christopher has shown great improvement in his ball handling skills and his understanding of the game. The assist for the goal came from halfback Keaton Ogden. The front line of Fire had some great runs and shots on goal, however a pretty good goal keeper and some smart play with the wind were enough to earn the win for the Rush. MSA would like to thank the parents for the support of their athletes, there were more fans on the Fire side of the field than on the Rush side. Once again the kids did not disappoint, they always give it everything and are more and more competitive each outing. Final Score 3-1 Cedar Rush.
